Jonathan Scott - BW

For these photos I use my stock camera with HDR, guidlines, and "tap to shoot" turned on. After taking 3 photos of the same subject I move to the app, "Snapseed", to edit and enhance the picture. I tend to go in the following order: Hdr Scale -> Details -> Tune Image -> Black and White -> Tune Image.

  1. Hello Jared, I like the different scenery of your photos. I think your best shot is photo #13

  2. There is a graininess that I like in your photos that feature historical landmarks because it give a vintage feel. I think it's most successful in 13 as well.

  3. I agree that the filter you used gives it a vintage feel. I like the pictures that make the clouds look so different. It gives the picture a different feel then if it was in color. My favorite picture is also #13.

  4. I like image 6 the best, I think the quality of the light allows viewers to speculate when it was taken as far as time of the day. It looks like it could be dusk or dawn. The strong verticality of the buildings juxtaposed with the broken ground line creates texture in the composition. I almost wonder if you could have stood slightly lower so that your view point was almost from the street level to create an interesting push of spatial perspective. I like the framing of most of your building shots as well.

  5. These architectural shots are really nicely done and visually detailed. I think that #6 and #16 are the most interesting because I can't tell where they are, whereas the other buildings are well-known to us 'Philadelphians'. When you disguise the places, you make your photographs more mysterious by not shooting a iconic landmark. #16 has great movement with the city skyline working back to the foreground and the bending pipes.

  6. Jonathan, these photos are very well composed. I think my favorite is #13 of William Penn. The framing definitely makes it foreboding and I like that. It reminds me of the House of Cards intro sequence. Other than that, in the future I would just tone down the HDR settings - it makes your photos grainier and takes out the rich dark colors.

  7. These are great photos, Jonathan. I specifically liked 8 and 10. 8 has a repeating pattern that is the only thing present in frame and really has a sense that the pattern continues far off of screen. 10 is a great photo as well because it is extremely ominous and almost has a sense of foreshadowing an impending doom.

  9. Jonathan I like your work. It seems you were inspired by Philadelphia architecture. My favorties are photos 8 & 10. They are both very clean and appealing.

  10. Great shots in and around philly! My favorite is 6, I like the contrast and the way the street light reflects on the brick road.
